Convenience and a Valuable Time Savings And There’s More …. 3 Free Bonuses Why You Should Listen to What I Say… So why listen to me, a guy that’s been doing this for only four years? That’s a valid enough question and one worth answering. For starters, it’s all fresh for me – the whole business of getting started. So, in effect, my mistakes will be your stepping stones and my questions and insecurities are shared and answered. Secondly, in those few short years my revenue from New Construction inspections hovers at just under six figures a year. Have you ever listened to a speaker with a decade or more of new construction inspection experience? Did it seem as if the details of getting started were left out? What you mostly get at these events is an hour and a half of war stories in which your speaker is the hero. Most of the stories that speakers digress into have little to do with the most common defects. Rather, the stories are generally about a one of a kind, interesting situation. While the slide show and stories can be good and entertaining, they generally make you think that there’s just too much you need to know to get started. Next thing you know, you’re starting to feel inadequate, you start dreaming up all kinds of excuses why you couldn’t possibly get qualified to do this type of inspection. Get over it. Every single one of us has had those feelings when we have started something new. Just do your homework, about 20 practice inspections, and you will have half the battle of, “I don’t know enough” handled. This book contains the essence of new construction inspecting as I know it. For the most part, I’ve included my experiences of the past four years in a way that guides you past the rough spots. I can confidently say that the application of the knowledge in this book will ground you in the basics of new construction inspections and give you what you need to be competent your first time out. Becoming competent, in the beginning, is just a matter of practice. Ten to twenty field trips and practice reports should be more than enough to provide you the knowledge and skill needed to do a decent first job for your client. Remember, we all have to start somewhere. Speaking of starting somewhere… I just finished writing a book review of Robert Ringer’s new book “Action! – Nothing Happens Until Something Moves”. My favorite chapter is the one titled, “The Action Phenomenon”, in which Mr. Ringer uses some of the universal laws to explain how, when you take action, good things follow. He says:
Ringer also touches on the theory of “The Law of Averages” explaining why victory goes to the bold. This book makes for a very interesting read if you are not already familiar with Universal Laws and the Cosmic Catalyst that effect your life whether or not you take action. My point is… Be bold! Take this book into the field, do some practice inspections and take that first job when it comes your way, and you’ll never look back.
